2、第十行，米蒂利尼，古希腊诗人萨福的故乡。
3、第十二行，依约翰·济慈的遗愿，墓碑没有刻上他的名字，只留下一句“Here lies One whose Name was writ in Water.”意思是，此地长眠者，其名已随流水逝。
4、最后一行，伊莎贝拉，出自济慈的著名长诗《伊莎贝拉，或罗勒花盆》，讲述佛罗伦萨的伊莎贝拉与罗伦佐相爱，两个兄长却要她嫁给一名贵族，遂杀死罗伦佐。伊莎贝拉将恋人的头颅埋在花盆里，并种了一棵罗勒树。在姑娘的眼泪不断灌注下，罗勒树长出奇异的花朵……
