美国出版商西蒙与舒斯特在2016年出版了一部很特别的诗集，名叫Poems that Make Grown Women Cry（让成年女子流泪的诗歌）。
哪一首诗歌最令你感动，让你落泪？一百位知名女士在书中交出了自己的答案。而小野洋子（Yoko Ono）的答案，是约翰·列侬（John Lennon）的歌曲，Grow Old with Me（与我偕老）。
与其他人相比，洋子的说明简洁得多，只有两句：这首诗是我丈夫约翰·列侬的最后一首歌。他用一抹金黄的落日写下，而我透过无尽的眼泪读出。
这首歌部分灵感来自罗伯特·勃朗宁（Robert Browning）的诗歌《拉比埃兹拉》（Rabbi Ben Ezra），开头两句正是“Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be”。
罗伯特和伊丽莎白，从惺惺相惜到如胶似漆，这对诗人伉俪展示了艺术和爱情如何完美结合，以及如何在恶劣的现实环境开出美丽的花朵。若说这是伟大的奇迹，一点都不夸张，因为纵观历史，绝大多数艺术家的艺术生涯和爱情生活都十分坎坷。
约翰是歌手，洋子是艺术家，他们与勃朗宁夫妇确实有不少相似的地方。而且，他们都喜欢勃朗宁夫妇的作品，他们都羡慕勃朗宁夫妇的生活。
“与我一起变老吧，迎接最好的时光。到了那一刻，我们会合而为一。”
年少时很不认同《诗经》的那一句“执子之手，与之偕老”，我曾经属于“It's better to burn out than to fade away”派。后来才理解，为什么列侬抨击“burn out”和那首歌〔My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)〕。只要心中有爱，只要心中的爱不会随时日褪色，那就不怕衰老，不怕“fade away”。
然而，让我们流泪的是，他们不能创造另一个奇迹。在写下这首歌之后没多久，列侬就被谋杀，剩下一人，抱着记忆独自变老。
