10. Harry Chapin - Cat's in the
Cradle, 1974
Harry Chapin 的1974年单曲 Cat's in the Cradle 最高登上美国榜榜首。Ugly Kid Joe 的1993年翻唱版也登上美国榜第6位和英国榜第7位。
歌曲关于父子之间令人悲哀的隔阂。
“And the cat's in the cradle
and the silver spoon / Little boy blue and the man in the moon”
儿子有点忧郁，父亲仿佛远在月球，为了维持富裕的家……父亲老了，儿子也为了赚钱，没时间探望。
“摇篮中的猫”是一种游戏（翻花绳），也是童年的象征。与猫无关，却因猫而可爱，这能减一分伤感吧。
9. Janet Jackson – Black Cat,
1990
Janet Jackson 的1990年单曲 Black Cat 最高登上美国榜榜首和英国榜第15位。
这是一首反毒歌曲。叙事者将瘾君子男友比喻成黑猫，
“Black cat, nine lives / Short days, long nights / Livin'
on the edge / Not afraid to die”
然后警告：你以为自己有九条命吗？不，你不是猫，最好浪子回头，否则晚矣。
“我”爱男友多于猫，本人则是爱猫多于任何人。所以，即便知道“猫有九命”是迷信说法，还是希望成真。
8. Elton John - Honky Cat,
1972
Elton John 的1972年单曲 Honky Cat 最高登上美国榜第8位和英国榜第31位。
“They said, get back, honky cat / Better get back to
the woods”
“Honky cat”指美国南方乡下小伙子。这小子不顾朋友规劝，毅然留在大城市闯荡，因为爱（“Until I saw your
city lights, honey”）。
我们可以不要比喻，让猫是猫。“Get back, honky cat”之声由窗而入，是野性的呼唤，一定令你和你的家猫忐忑不安。但一刻过后，猫又依偎着你睡觉。跟歌中小子一样，你的猫决定留下来。
7. Spin Doctors - Cleopatra's Cat,
1994
Spin Doctors 的1994年单曲 Cleopatra's Cat 最高登上英国榜第29位和美国榜第84位。
“Cleopatra's favorite cat / Got his hands on Caesar's
spats”
纽约摇滚乐队 Spin Doctors 讲授一堂历史课。让我们知道，克娄巴特拉、凯撒、安东尼、布鲁图这些显耀一时的大人物，在猫眼中微不足道。
历史并无记载埃及女王的猫。但是我们知道，猫像神一样受古埃及人崇拜。由此推断，女王身边必定有猫，而且不止一只。
6. The Kinks - Phenomenal Cat,
1968
The Kinks 的歌曲 Phenomenal Cat 收录在1968年专辑 The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society 之中。
以“a long, long time ago”开头，这首歌讲述一个老少咸宜的童话故事。一只非凡猫坐在树上什么都不干。“He just lived to
eat”。为什么？他解释说，他曾经周游列国，悟出生命的秘密。“So he gave up his
diet and sat in a tree”。
绝对正确。猫的每个行为都是最高智慧的发挥，都值得人类学习，包括什么都不干。
5. Adam Ant - Puss 'n Boots,
1983
Adam Ant 的1983年单曲 Puss 'n Boots 最高登上英国榜第5位。
热爱历史和文学的歌手这次借用格林童话（穿靴子的猫），讲述一个与之无关的现代童话。
“Pussycat's going to London / Looking for love and
for fame”。
美丽而聪明的、穿着靴子的猫女郎，是否另有所指？不必有福尔摩斯的能力，我们从“It's bound to end
in tears”、“The royalty made
her an offer”可推断，这首歌极有可能是写给戴安娜王妃的。世纪婚礼的焰火还未消散，敏感的歌手就已经看到一个不安的未来。
4. Tom Jones - What's New
Pussycat?, 1965
Tom Jones 的1965年单曲 What's New Pussycat? 最高登上英国榜第11位和美国榜第3位。作为同名电影的主题歌，它获奥斯卡提名。
“Pussycat, pussycat / I've got flowers and lots of
hours to spend with you”
显而易见，歌曲把恋人比喻为“pussycat”。但是在歌手发自肺腑且中气十足的表白中，我们更愿意“倒喻为本”，以此抒发对自家爱猫的爱意：“Pussycat,
pussycat, I love you, yes, I do”。而且，猫咪都很喜欢听。
3. Elaine Paige – Memory,
1981
Elaine Paige 的1981年单曲 Memory 最高登上英国榜第6位，1998年她重新录制的版本也登上英国榜第36位。
Andrew Lloyd Webber 音乐剧 Cats 脍炙人口，当中 Memory 更超越舞台，成为闪耀乐坛的一首永恒金曲。
“Memory, all alone in the moonlight / I can dream of
the old days / Life was beautiful then”
Elaine Paige 饰演的 Grizabella 年老色衰，为同伴所排斥，每夜在月下追忆魅力四射的往昔。这种哀苦超越物种，停歇在多少深宵的窗幔上呢？
还好，结局令人宽慰。
2. Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut,
1981
Stray Cats 的1981年单曲 Stray Cat Strut 最高登上英国榜第11位和美国榜第3位。
“Black and orange stray cat sittin' on a fence / Ain't
got enough dough to pay the rent / I'm flat broke but I don't care / I strut
right by with my tail in the air”
成名前乐队三人在伦敦街头流离，发现都市的流浪猫永远竖起尾巴，永远骄傲。他们以流浪猫自况，表示不管多么艰辛，仍然坚持自我。
“我们也是这样。”两个评委罕有地惺惺相惜起来……

Queen 的 All Dead, All Dead 收录在1977年专辑 News
of the World 之中。
Brian May 创作、主唱、钢琴伴奏，献给陪伴他成长的爱猫。如今她已离去……同样爱猫的 Freddie Mercury 也很喜欢这首歌，录制了一个作为主唱的版本（Hybrid Version），这个版本直到2017年才公开，还有一个可爱的动画MV。

她走了，我还活着。我长大了、变老了，但还是那个小孩，爱你的心不变……
